Job Profile

The role of the Learning and Development Manager is to support the business and its growth through the development of internal talent and future leaders.  The incumbent primarily identifies organizational learning and development needs, and oversees the design, development and delivery of effective learning solutions. The incumbent works with and directs a remote team of learning and development specialists to utilize best practices to promote exceptional learning experiences across the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with Director of People to develop overall learning strategies and plans for Canadian organization
  • Support overall business objectives by leading the end-to-end assessments, design, development, implementation and evaluation of learning programs, including courses, modules, webinars, eLearning and instructor-led training
  • Engage with all stakeholders to determine key deliverables for the development of programs and internal communications
  • Provide innovative solutions to increase acceptance and adoption of learning strategies
  • Ensure project deliverables for existing and new initiatives are successfully executed
  • Ensure all programs are kept current and aligned with business changes
  • Lead a remote team of Learning and Development Specialists, and manage the achievement of functional goals by providing ongoing direction, coaching and development
  • Plan, develop and implement cost effective professional and leadership development programs for head office and field management employees that address identified needs
  • Consult on change management best practices to support organizational change and project implementations
  • Manage the development and ongoing maintenance of all learning materials
  • Oversee management of learning systems and technology that supports effective learning. Manage e-learning courses in the LMS, including uploading, testing, reporting and support
  • Build, manage and maintain a strong partnership with the Global Learning and Development team

Qualifications

  • 8-10 years of experience at a managerial level in learning and development
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Human Resources, Adult Education, Instructional Design, Organizational Development, or equivalent, and additional training specialization preferred
  • CPLC, CTP, CTDP, or equivalent designations are an asset
  • Demonstrated success in leading a remote team a learning and development capacity
  • Excellent project management skills with ability to multi-task several diverse large-scale projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to assess organizational development/learning needs and develop, implement and evaluate programs
  • Proven progressive experience with applying instructional design methodologies in live, virtual, eLearning and blended environments, and the ability to link knowledge transfer with desired business outcomes
  • Strong research skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into practical applications for training program participants
  • Demonstrated experience and credibility championing new approaches and change management techniques
  • A passion for employee development, motivation and coaching, with the ability to create and sustain strong working partnerships and trusted relationships with all stakeholders across the organization
  • Compelling communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to deliver and facilitate training programs to both large and small groups in person and in a virtual setting
  • Strong technical aptitude, with advanced computer skills and advance eLearning platforms and Learning Management Systems

Working conditions

Travel is required for up to 15% within Canada and the US

The incumbent is required to maintain strong working relationships with employees at all levels and across all functions within the organization.  In addition, the Learning and Development Managers provides oversees a team of remote Learning and Development Specialists and partners with the People Manager and People Director on OD initiatives
